Not being even liberal

Not being even liberal democrat doesn't stop the Russian Liberal Democrats (or to a lesser extent the Japanese)...

But
the name of Liberal Democrats already includes the word "liberal", and
if they aren't living up to it, I don't see why renaming it to "Liberal
Party" would worsen things. Actually it might remind the members of
what liberalism used to mean in the old days.

Not being liberal doesn't stop the Australian Liberal Party (or to a lesser extent the Canadian)...

Admit?

If you read anything I write it should be readily apparent that I don't think the Lib Dems are as liberal as is required to achieve the liberal aims of the eradication of poverty by the dismantling of the portectionist state.

But the reason I'm a committed member of the Lib Dems is I don't believe anyone else either is, has been in living memory, or is any more likely to become proper liberals than the Lib Dems, because they have that history waiting to be rediscovered.

As anonymous indicated

As anonymous indicated above, we're certainly a more liberal party than the current shower going by that name.

"If we did want to become

"If we did want to become the "Liberal Party" or some similar name ("Liberal Alliance UK" anyone ?) we actually have to become a liberal party."

So you admit that Liberal Democrats aren't already a liberal party? But actually I have to disagree. The current "Liberal Party" isn't actually a liberal party, neither was the one which merged to the Social Liberal Democrats in 1988 probably for decades, anymore.

"Liberal Party", "Liberal Youth" and other nonsense...

There's been a bit of silly talk aout some kind rebrnading either of the party or of LDYS as, respectively, the "Liberal Party" (of which, as Jonny says, there already is one) or LDYS and "Liberal Youth". All the links to the specuative frippery are on Jonny's Hug-a-Hoodie blog.

I have to say that, quite apart from any other objections to such an idea, I would be sorely tempted to call in trading standards officers for product misrepresentation. If we did want to become the "Liberal Party" or some similar name ("Liberal Alliance UK" anyone ?) we actually have to become a liberal party.
