The rate our pubs are closing I'd have thought that they wouldn't keep their patio heaters on a moment more than necessary in any case! However since we have deteriorated to a society where people do whatever they feel like until stopped (a trait I've noticed in microcosm via the student community in which I work), I guess we are going to see more and more of this kneejerk reaction - even though it is the deterioration of government/leadership we have to thank for this state of affairs in the first place.

Jock - I (he incidentally) am reading indeed! I did a post a week or so ago explaining that my blogroll is in desperate need of an update. I am soon moving over to wordpress though (I think...) and so am not going to sort it our until I make the plunge. Not being even liberal democrat doesn't stop the Russian Liberal Democrats (or to a lesser extent the Japanese)...

But
the name of Liberal Democrats already includes the word "liberal", and
if they aren't living up to it, I don't see why renaming it to "Liberal
Party" would worsen things. Actually it might remind the members of
what liberalism used to mean in the old days.
