Woolworths and Lewisham Centre

I mentioned in my speech at Full Council on the economic downtown, one of the problems is that central Lewisham is being badly hit by the troubles hitting Woolworths and MFI, both of which have stores here. Woolworths and Lewisham shopping centre are covered in some depth in the Independent.

Millwall FC & Domestic Violence Hit Lewisham Market: 24/11/08

On Monday 24th November, the Lewisham Community Safety Bus will be out in Lewisham Market from 10.30am staffed with volunteers from domestic violence support services for both victims and perpetrators.  In order to raise awareness around DV in Lewisham and available services, we will be handing out white ribbons and information as well as providing third party reporting and specialist police officers for reporting of domestic violence.

Thet will be joined by The Millwall FC Football Bus and players at 1.30pm as well as Zampa the lion, the Millwall Mascot.

The event will run until 3 pm.

English/Maths teacher sought

"Action for Refugees in Lewisham(AFRIL) aims to  relieve the poverty of refugees, advance their education and educate the public of their rights and needs.

To meet our key aims  the Rainbow club is for refugee children and children with English as a second language  aged 5-11 to raise their achievements and academic excellence.


We are looking for an experienced and motivated teacher to teach
ENGLISH/MATHS
2 hours weekly on Saturdays @ £ 17.50 per hour.



Applicants will:
Have experience of teaching English/Maths in primary schools and the British Education system
Uk or overseas teaching qualifications
Ability to relate to young people and gain their confidence

Public Meeting on Sustainable Communities Act: Wed 24 October

You might be interested in a public meeting being held on Wednesday 29 October to discuss the Sustainable Communities Act.  The meeting will be attended by one of the principle campaigners for the Act, Steve Shaw of Local Works .

Deputy Mayor Heidi Alexander will give the council's view of the Act and to set out how the council will respond to the government's invitation to local authorities to opt in.

Hither Green Community Association: Wed 22 October

Please come along to the Hither Green Community Association Public
Meeting on Wednesday 22nd October, 7.30pm to 9.00pm at Hither Green
Primary School, Beacon Road, SE13 6EH.

This meeting is for everyone! Whether you be a local resident,
represent a local community group, are a local retailer or business
etc.

I will be there as a local ward councillor. Also confirmed to attend are our local Town Centre Manager, the Safer Neighbourhood Team, our Hither Green Railway Station Manager.  There will be updates on planning issues and Christmas and Spring
Fayre ideas.

Lewisham Central Ward Local Assembly

Everyone who lives or works in Lewisham Central ward is welcome to take part in the next meeting of the local assembly.  This will be from 7-9 pm on Tuesday 14 October at the Methodist Hall on Albion Way.  It will set priorities for the area and discuss how to spend the £10,000 Localities Fund for the ward.  I will be chairing.
